Physiotherapist – North Shore Lab
Sarah graduated from AUT in 2007 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences majoring in Physiotherapy, and is currently completing her Masters of Health Practice at AUT, and Post Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Otago University. She has also completed a number of development courses focusing on movement analysis, exercise prescription and dry needling.
Since graduating Sarah has worked in a variety of private practice roles in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Within these roles she has been involved in delivering physiotherapy treatment to a number of schools, aged care and physically dependent facilities and also in clients’ homes. Primarily her focus has been in musculoskeletal physiotherapy but has explored components of cardiorespiratory and neurological physiotherapy within these roles which has added to her whole clinical experience in her current practice.
She works closely with a number of competitive weightlifters and CrossFit athletes some of who represent New Zealand here and also internationally. And has also worked with rugby teams at club level and for North Harbour in the premier, reserve and restricted grades.
Professional views and special interests:
Sarah enjoys working with clients of all levels of abilities in and out of the sporting realm and the variety of goals and challenges each scenario brings. She enjoys problem solving obstacles that present and the more creative the solution, the better as this often is coupled with increased compliance and participation in the rehabilitation process. She has a strong focus on manual therapy, exercise prescription and looks widely at the whole picture to also correct movement dysfunctions that may be asymptomatic, as this unlocks movement and performance potential and assists in injury prevention. Sarah believes that education and great communication is paramount as this allows you to understand what the recovery process looks like and requires, while equipping you with the tools for self-management to also assist in preventing injury reoccurrence.
Outside of the Lab:
Sarah enjoys exploring the outdoors and new places and will give almost anything a go. Her top picks are trail running when she doesn’t get too lost and heading up the mountain snowboarding in winter. She has a couple of marathons under her belt and hoping to add to these this year. And also enjoys CrossFit, especially the pre workout coffee chats!
